Maps To Ecstasy

BOOK: Maps To Ecstasy

AUTHOR: Gabrielle Roth

GRADE: B-

Gabrielle Roth explores the journey towards our true selves through the practices of meditative dance. Her exploration is both interesting and fun. She, herself, is a theater director and a healer - so she is well versed in her subject matter. Her descriptions of the healing power of her dance practices are fascinating; if a little hard to believe. As a disclaimer, I must admit that I did not actually get up and try any of her dance moves (which are less moves persay, than natural movements flowing out of the body organically) and therefore cannot testify to the actual effectiveness. But it seems to be working quite well for her.

Her explanations about our physic blockages make sense in light of today's world. And her premise is plausible. Her writing is a little too flowery for my taste and my natural skepticism did come to the surface throughout the book. None the less, it's a fascinating read - and a quick one - and I would recommend it to those interested in these kind of healing practices.
