BOOK: Let There Be Facebook
AUTHOR: Travis Harmon and Jonathan Shockley
GRADE: B+
Harmon and Shockley have found yet another way to capitalize on the fact that facebook has taken over the world – and I say, good for them! In this unauthorized parody, the reader is given a history of the world in the form of status updates: starting with God and ending with Baby Lady Gaga. Perfect for the younger generation since they generally can’t turn themselves away from the screen and might as well learn something other than new emoticons while there!
The beauty in this book is that Harmon and Shockley have taken an idea that could easily have resulted in fluffy stupidity and molded it into a “story” that is clever, witty, somewhat factually correct and overall enjoyable to read. I’m not betting on any serious literary awards being handed out for “Let There Be Facebook,” but I don’t think that was what the authors were going for anyway. It’s a quick read and an enjoyable one at that! Check it out – gets my vote!!
