One of my dearest friends is obsessed with Kristin Chenoweth. OBSESSED. It’s mildly frightening, actually, but goes hand in hand with her OBSESSION with Broadway in general. So, I was not shocked when she very enthusiastically handed me “A Little Bit Wicked” and swore up and down it would change my life. I laughed, but promised to give it a read. As fate would have it, I was in the middle of a book I was not enjoying in the least and made the decision to switch over to Kristin – figuring it would be an easy read at the very least. Turns out, it was much more!

While I wouldn’t go as far as to say that it changed my life; I will say that my dear friend’s obsession makes a whole lot more sense to me now! The woman is HILARIOUS! Seriously, this is one of the most amusing books I’ve read recently. Her take on life is optimistic, kind-hearted and laugh out loud honest. Her refusal to either deny her faith or go to extreme lengths to defend it is a conviction I find heartwarming. Kristin Chenoweth is the embodiment of what “what you see is what you get, take it or leave it” looks like. She knows who she is and makes no bones about it. Don’t like it? Take your business elsewhere. AND… she manages to convey this attitude without the least bit of hostility or resentment. Also, if you’re curious – yes, she is aware that she is quite short. She mentions and expounds upon the subject frequently throughout the book – with the end result being “so what?”

Technically speaking, the writing is competent. The tone and pace lend themselves to her personality. She lets the reader feel like they are actually talking with her over a delish southern meal. From page five onward it is impossible not to find yourself rooting for the little girl with the big voice and the even bigger heart.

I wish Ms. Chenoweth all the best, look forward to seeing more of her on stage and television and want to say that “A Little Bit Wicked” has made a fan out of me for sure!
